Born in the United States, his father being American and his mother Italian, the artist Matthew Lauretti now lives and works in Bologna. Demonstrating an early talent for painting, developed through wide experience both in Italy and abroad, he is, today, numbered among one of the most original new young artists. In a context that does not always reward research, his work is, nonetheless, characterized by tireless and never ending experimenting with new techniques.

His paintings, which are mostly of very large dimensions, have unexpected optical effects created by the use of different shapes and colors, revealing an interesting and personal command of the subject.

His abstract expressionism plays with the most imaginative shapes of "tachisme" together with the virtuosity of op art, always experimenting with new materials, using audacious creativity with dynamic effects, which give strong sensations...

A peculiar and recurring theme in Matthew's art is his use of "faces", abstract use of interior primitive models of humanity continuously searching for its origins.
